Heights Heritage Area |
The West Harlem Art Fund, Inc. has been advocating for the last seven years for a heritage area in Northern Manhatan for the State of New York -- the Heights Heritage Area. A “state designated” heritage area allows a region to attract needed funds to improve public landscape, market and promote local businesses and institutions and spur economic growth and development using art, culture and history. The boundaries of the Heights Heritage Area would begin at 122nd Street to 218th Street in Manhattan from the Hudson River to the eastern boundaries of Highbridge Park and Tenth Avenue. |

New York State Heritage Park Goals |
The four goals of New York State Heritage Area programs are 1) preservation of historic buildings and settings which portray the state’s heritage, 2) education of the public about the history and significance of the buildings and settings, 3) recreation programs and opportunities which use the settings for active and passive recreation, and 4) economic development through the use of the historic buildings and settings.
